Some Top Halloween Costumes for 2015

Halloween is the perfect holiday to combine creativity and ingenuity, giving people a chance to party and ingest insane amounts of candy. The hallmark of an awesome Halloween is the costume. Sure, you could hit your local party store and get one of the hundreds of standard costumes (how many different types of clowns can there be?!). Or, you can take a pick from this list of Top 10 Halloween costumes and do something a bit different from the norm.

Cookie Monster

You don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for this Sesame Street favorite. If you have a blue velvet or felt blanket, then you’re almost done. Use two large golf balls and draw black circles in the middle for his eyes and your costume is complete. You may need to put eye holes in the front of the costume so you can see, despite the fact that the actual “eyes” you’ve created are sitting atop your head as Cookie’s Monster’s eye do.

Old School Coppertone Girl

This retro ad features a black dog yipping at a young girl’s swimsuit bottoms and practically pulling them off. It is iconic for the brand, and practically everyone recognized the Coppertone girl. Replicate this costume with a neutral-hued shirt and swim suit bikini bottoms. Attach a dog to the back of the swimsuit and put your hair in pigtails with blue ribbons and voila, you’ve got a unique retro costume. Just be sure to use a stuffed dog and refrain from trying to actually attach Fido to your behind.

Trash Can

If you want a costume that doubles as a prank, then go as a human trash can. You can cut a hole in the bottom of a large trash can and hide inside. When unsuspecting partygoers walk by, pop out of the top. If you cut arm holes in the sides, you can walk around doing this all night on Halloween.

Rubik’s Cube

Black shelves and colored square print outs create a cool costume idea that no one is bound to have. All you need to do is hollow out the middle of the shelves (preferably square shaped) so that your body fits in the middle. Attach the colored squares following the cube’s pattern. Just don’t be surprised if, as you walk around, people ask to solve you all night.

Plastic Army Figure

Get dressed up in your best fatigues costume and get all of the accessories in place. Then, have a friend or family member spray you down in the same shade of green that these figures were once found in and bring a platform on which to stand during your Halloween party. This is a cool retro costume idea for the guys, in particular.

Ginger Bread Man

This one is a clever idea for red heads. Hang some loaves of French bread around your neck with a sign that says “Ginger Bread Man.” People will howl with laughter all night at the misnomer.

Ham and Swiss Cheese

Looking for a fun and unique couple’s costume that isn’t ketchup and mustard or a hot dog and bun. Either go to your local costume shop and grab larger-than-life versions of ham and Swiss cheese or screen print large images onto a pink t-shirt (ham) and cream t-shirt (Swiss cheese) for a great couple’s costume.

Rosie The Riveter

This one is for the ladies. Create a sexy version of Rosie the Riveter with a blue unitard, knee-high socks and red high heels. Go with a pin-up girl hairstyle with a bandana tied around the front and complete the look with red lipstick and a fierce attitude.

Minions Costume

Minions are super trendy right now and this costume requires little more than a blue denim set of overalls and a yellow shirt, replete with a pair of glasses. Costume stores also sell official costumes, but you can create your own version with the aforementioned materials for a lot less money.

Where’s Waldo

You can again go with an official look for this one of the top Halloween costumes 2015, or make your own version. If you have a red and white striped beanie, you’re already halfway there. Add with it a red and white striped shirt and some dark pants, throw on some nerd glasses and you’re ready to be found! If you want to make it fun, ask your friends to find you if they can.
